The Chinese Labubu dolls, which triggered a real global frenzy, including among the stars of the music world, could soon reach the big screens, writes The Hollywood Reporter, according to News.ro.
Sony Pictures this week inked a deal to develop a film based on the beloved sharp-toothed creatures. The project is in the early stages and it has not yet been decided whether the production will be live-action or animated.
Labubu dolls, marketed by the Pop Mart company in China, have become a worldwide phenomenon this year. Celebrities such as Rihanna and Lisa from the South Korean band Blackpink have been caught wearing them, and buyers have stood in line for hours to purchase the figurines sold in “blind boxes”, surprise boxes in which the model is only revealed after opening.
Sony is known for the productions of the “Jumanji” series, as well as for the animated hit “KPop Demon Hunters”, distributed on Netflix.
