Defending champion Jannik Sinner (24, ATP No. 2) qualified for the final act of the ATP Finals for the third time in a row after defeating Alex de Minaur (26, ATP No. 7) 7-5, 6-2, maintaining his unblemished record against the Australian.

Jannik Sinner didn't drop a set or a service point during his matches in the 'Jimmy Connors' group at the ATP Finals in front of a raucous crowd in Turin, who supported him with admirable devotion.

In the last game, he faced Alex de Minaur and stayed patient in the first set, converting the eighth break opportunity to take the lead. The 24-year-old then overwhelmed the resilient Australian with his intensity and accurate hitting in the second set, becoming the youngest player since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004 to reach three finals at the prestigious season-ending competition.

Jannik Sinner: “I tried to be a little more aggressive and it worked well”

First of all, I am very happy” Sinner said shortly after the game ended. “It's the last tournament of the year and it's great to end it this way. It was a very difficult match, especially at the beginning of the first set. I felt it served very well, very precisely. In the second act, I broke very early and then my level went up“, he continued.

I tried to be a little more aggressive and it worked well, but it was a difficult match. But the fact that we reached the final for the third year in a row means a lot to me. It's a great atmosphere for me to play tennis in and a great place to end this beautiful season. Tomorrow I will be happy and give my best to get the best possible result“, he assured.

Sinner has won his last 30 matches on the court, his last loss coming against Novak Djokovic in the ATP Finals two years ago. Since then, he has won indoor titles at Rotterdam, Turin, Vienna and Pariswhile contributing to two Italian triumphs in Davis Cup (2023 and 2024).

The second favorite will look to add to his ever-growing record when he meets either Carlos Alcaraz or Felix Auger-Aliassime in Sunday's final. Alcaraz, who is looking for his first Tour of Champions trophy, secured the world number one position at the end of the year after winning all his matches in the 'Bjorn Borg' group. Thus, he put an end to Sinner's attempt to be the leader at the end of the season.

In a packed Inalpi Arena, De Minaur briefly silenced the 13,000 home crowd when he went 0-40 in Sinner's first service game. But when he failed to convert, the Italian settled and never looked back. From that moment, the world number 2 waited for his moment, looking for the ideal options.

The Italian, who realized 32 winning shots and capitalized 75% of first serve ballsstruck the ball with precision and settled into a comfortable rhythm, triumphing after one hour and 52 minutes.

For Alex de Minaurthe loss ends an otherwise remarkable year. The Australian finishes with a tally of 56 wins and 24 defeats, marking his first season to surpass the 50-win mark. The Australian's only title of 2025 came at the ATP 500 tournament from Washington.
