Inter's president, firm: “Chivu has great values. If we hadn't chosen him, I would have regretted it”

Giuseppe Marotta says that the choice of Cristi Chivu was a brave one, but based on the value and mentality of the Romanian:

It surprises me that people are amazed by the talent of coach Cristian Chivu. We chose it because it has great values, we had the courage to go against media opinion.

I think some people were suggesting Mourinho…with all due respect. If we had the courage to choose him, I would have regretted it,” says Marotta.

Marotta compares the PSG example

Marotta also spoke about the paradigm shift in European football: “The equation is no longer in football. Now motivation is important, which is multiplied by competence. That's what the French at PSG did, completely changing the model: no more big names, they invested in young talents.”

Inter's president emphasizes that current success is built through smart strategies, not just through unlimited budgets.

The president also spoke about San Siro

Marotta also addressed the subject of the move from the legendary San Siro:

For the old romantics, I think leaving will bring bitterness and nostalgia. I was at the stadium for the first time in 1966. There are strong emotions, but we have to think about innovation and modernity

He explained the huge differences between a classic and a modern stadium:

  • superior safety and security

  • the possibility to spend the whole day there

  • commercial and entertainment spaces

  • the feeling of “home” for the supporters
