Ciprian Ciucu, the PNL candidate in the elections for the Capital City Hall, claims that he “was somehow misinterpreted” when he said about the candidacy of Cătălin Drula from USR that it “becomes irrelevant”, being rather “an explanation in a certain context”, not a call to withdraw.
The liberal declared, on Friday, on B1 TV, that he is not asking the USR candidate to withdraw from the electoral race.
“No, I'm not asking Cătălin Drula to withdraw. I want it to be a competition to the end and the people of Bucharest to choose, because they have a choice, thank God, this time, and to move on, that is, I'm not asking him to withdraw”, declared Ciprian Ciucu.
In an interview for Adevărul, the PNL candidate said about Drula's candidacy in the December 7 elections that “it is becoming irrelevant”.
“It was somehow misinterpreted. I would like it to be a real competition, because a real competition gives more legitimacy to the candidate who will win. Anyway, the one who wins will win with a fairly small score and will have to recover, because if you win with around 30% or less than 30% you have a problem of legitimacy, because we don't have elections in the 2nd round, and at least the competition should be as real as possible”, added Ciprian Ciucu, on Friday, on B1 TV.
“You realize that the PSD would be hysterical”
Ciprian Ciucu recalled that PSD, PNL and USR agreed to participate with separate candidates in the December 7 elections.
“I'm not asking Cătălin Drula to withdraw, nor do I think he can do it (…). He can't somehow withdraw, because that's how the discussion in the coalition was, in the sense that we go all the way with our candidate, and you realize that the PSD would be hysterical if we violated that verbal “agreement”. Now, on the other hand, I hope we're not the ones who are somehow deceived by the PSD, we are going with separate candidates and after which they cause a break at the coalition level, that is, I expect them to keep their word”, continued the first vice-president of the PNL.
He urged the PSD “to stay in government regardless of the result”.
“To stay in the coalition, to support the Bolojan government, to make the reforms, because that's why we went with separate candidates, to maintain governmental stability (…). I don't think the PSD candidate (Daniel Băluță, nr) will win, between us,” Ciprian Ciucu said.
