Some European countries are more excited than others to regularly use artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life or at work, according to a Microsoft report cited by Euronews.com.
Since OpenAI's launch of ChatGPT in 2022, more than 1.2 billion people around the world have used AI tools, according to Microsoft's AI Diffusion Report, published in November 2025. The adoption rate of AI is faster than that of other major technologies, including the Internet, the personal computer, and the smartphone.
Currently, the European Union (especially its richest countries) is leading the adoption of artificial intelligence, according to the report. A ranking of the countries where AI is best integrated into everyday life shows that Ireland leads the pack, with 41.7%. Followed by France (40.9%) and Spain (39.7%)
At the other end of the spectrum are Romania (15.3%) and Greece (17.7%), where people are the least likely in the EU to use AI in their daily lives or at work.
Outside the EU, Norway and the UK are also two AI-savvy countries: 45.3% of Norwegians and 36.4% of Britons use AI regularly, according to the report.
Microsoft stated that globally, the adoption of AI is closely related to a country's economy. In the global north, adoption is around 23% compared to 13% in the global south.
AI adoption has also been faster in countries with strong electricity, connectivity and computing infrastructure. However, nearly four billion people worldwide live in regions where these factors remain a challenge.
“The gap is not just due to access to AI tools, but reflects deeper discrepancies in infrastructure, education and language,” the report said.
