December is in full swing: the snow is melting in the hallway, the socks are damp, and a sour smell has appeared inside the shoes, which does not disappear even after airing. Washing shoes every day is not an option, and store-bought sprays often only mask the problem.
There is a simple method that eliminates the source of the odor rather than hiding it. It works from the first use and is even suitable for children's shoes.
You will need:
Baking soda – 2-3 tablespoons
Cornstarch or talc – 1 tablespoon
Tea tree or lavender essential oil – 3-5 drops
How to do:
- Mix baking soda with starch.
- Add essential oil and stir until smooth.
- Sprinkle the mixture inside dry shoes overnight.
- In the morning, carefully shake out the residue or vacuum with a soft attachment.
Baking soda neutralizes the acidic environment in which bacteria thrive. Starch absorbs residual moisture, and essential oils have a natural antibacterial effect.
This method is safe, does not stain or damage the material. Suitable for leather, suede, textiles and even sports shoes.
If the shoes are wet, first dry them well at room temperature, and only then apply the mixture. Regular use 1-2 times a week will prevent odor even in the snowiest month.
