Cătălin Drulă, the USR candidate at the Capital City Hall, told Digi24 that the discussions for a joint right -handed candidacy are still in progress, specifying that in the liberal camp the situation is “unclear”, indirectly invoking the possibility that the PNL will take into account a candidacy from its ranks.
Answering a question about a possible candidacy for the position of general mayor, Cătălin Dula said: “I want to apply. I have the support of Nicușor Dan.”
“I am optimistic that we will reach a common candidacy.”
Asked next if he only has the support of the current president of Romania, Drulă said that a partnership with Nicușor Dan would create the conditions for making the program with which the current president won his capital's mandates.
“Nicușor Dan made Bucharest a project of his political life, and this candidacy sees it as an advantage for Bucharest. I hope to make a partnership and to do the things that have passed in Bucharest. The General City Hall was dried by resources that were divided into the sectors and in Ilfov county because the governments saw that they had a US.”
He has been skeptically shown that a unique candidate of the ruling parties for the town hall will be reached, but he thinks that the right -wing parties will go to a single candidate. “The coalition seems to me much, but on the right side I think it can,” said Drulă stating that USR, PNL and several small parties could be part of an alliance to support a single candidate.
“At PNL, the situation is a bit unclear,” commented the former Minister of Transport, mentioning them, without explicitly saying if the variants taken into account by the Liberal, Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of Sector 6 and Stelian Bujduveanu, the current interim mayor, which “is quite active in recent days.”
“The discussions have not reached the end, but I am optimistic that we will reach this common candidacy,” Drulă said.
Regarding the date of the partial elections in Bucharest, he mentioned that the coalition discussion was for November. “I do not think that in the spring because Bucharest needs a leader to be validated electoral,” concluded Cătălin Drulă.
Candidacy announced after a meeting with the president
USR deputy Cătălin Drulă declared on July 31 in Digi 24, that he wants to take the place of Nicușor Dan at the City Hall, relying on the support from the party led by Dominic Fritz, but also from the PNL.
“I want to apply. I also told the president about this intention. We still have some stages in USR, our internal procedures, but more than that, we would like to have a wider candidacy in Bucharest, with a common candidate from PNL and USR. Common, maybe with other smaller parties, which I think the same, I think it would be an important signal to gather these energies behind a candidate.
The former USR leader had announced, the day before, that he was seen with the president and talked about the continuation of the projects for Bucharest, but also about the implementation of the referendum made by Dan regarding the division of money between the General City Hall and the sector.
Subsequently, Nicușor Dan specified during the press conference held at the Cotroceni Palace that he spoke with Drulă in the context in which elections are to be organized for the remaining vacant with his departure from the Bucharest City Hall.
