Surgeons at the Krasnoyarsk Emergency Hospital performed the first operation in the region to correct a congenital anomaly of the facial skeleton using a custom 3D prosthesis. The regional Ministry of Health spoke about this.
Due to the absence of the left condylar process, the patient developed severe facial asymmetry. Surgeons replaced the temporomandibular joint and corrected the position of the upper jaw. The operation lasted five hours and required complex anesthesia.
As the doctors explained, they were faced with two tasks: to restore chewing function and eliminate the aesthetic defect. To do this, an exact copy of the joint was made in advance using 3D modeling.
After the intervention, the patient spent several days in intensive care, then was transferred to a specialized department. The rehabilitation was successful – the woman returned to normal life with restored jaw function and a symmetrical face.
The operation was performed by maxillofacial surgeons Artem Kryuchkov, Evgeniy Pykin and Nikita Lukashevich.
