The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) on November 13, 1948 told its readers that a new street appeared in Birobidzhan just a few months ago:

“Where there was a vacant lot, there is now a row of new houses, smoke is billowing from the chimneys, there are white curtains on the windows, behind which you can see flowers.

Here is one of the houses, neatly plastered inside and out. Three steps lead to a wide porch. Inside there is a spacious kitchen, a large room with three windows and a bedroom. A migrant from the Nikolaev region, Meer Borisovich Segal, lives here. Shoe factory workers live in two houses next door to Segal. Nearby, Pereselenstroy workers are building houses for themselves: machine operator Miroshnikov, carpenters Perman, Puzik, Plits. All of them are recently arrived migrants. So, between the house-building plant and the “30 Years of October Revolution” artel, where until recently there was a vacant lot, a new street is growing, populated by new builders of the region.”

In the same newspaper in the section “In our region” it is written about the opening of an evening school for collective farm youth in the village of Bidzhan, Leninsky district:

“There are 36 young collective farmers and collective farmers of the agricultural artel named after Mukhin. The school is staffed with qualified teachers and supplied with textbooks. All classes have electric lighting. Applications from boys and girls continue to be received with a request to enroll them in the school.”

And also in the newspaper it is written that one of the units of the Pacific Fleet took patronage over the Waldheim orphanage.

“The other day, the bosses visited an orphanage. The sailors got acquainted in detail with the procedures in the orphanage, the educational success of its pupils. At the evening, the sailors presented gifts to the children.”

It is said that A festive concert dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution took place at the children's music school.
