Every autumn, summer residents perform a small but very important ritual in the garden. When the harvest is harvested, the leaves have fallen and the air is filled with cold, you can take out a roll of regular foil and wrap it around the trunks of apple and pear trees. UssurMedia news agency found out why this is necessary.
After fruiting, colonies of pests often remain on trees. In autumn they come down to hide at the roots and under the bark. But if you wrap the trunk with foil at a height of 20 cm from the ground, pests lose access to the crown.
What to do? Secure the foil with regular twine and bend the top edge outward; the result is a kind of “roof” that the ants cannot overcome.
The foil creates a mechanical barrier; insects are not able to cling to its smooth surface, and the bent edge does not allow them to get under it. Ants do not climb the tree, which means that the aphid loses its “transport system” and disappears on its own. Also, foil survives the winter well and is not afraid of moisture and wind. In spring you can simply remove it and enjoy healthy trees.
Tip: use thick foil so that it does not tear and holds securely until spring.
