– The signature under this document shows that consistency in action makes sense. My pressure in this matter, including my previous veto, forced the government to improve this project and introduce changes expected by many Poles and reported by me. This is proof that decisiveness brings results – said President Karol Nawrocki on Thursday in a recording published on the X platform by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.

The so-called The aid act (special act) in force from 2022 has created a separate legal system simplifying the rules of stay, work, benefits and education for war refugees from Ukraine. The Act on the extinguishment of solutions resulting from the Act on assistance to citizens of Ukraine in connection with an armed conflict on the territory of this country is intended to extinguish this system, and instead, a common system of temporary protection for all foreigners will be created. According to it, the most important tools from this Act will not disappear, but will be transferred to the Act on granting protection to foreigners.

The document extends the legality of stay of people fleeing the war and Ukrainian citizens whose residence permits were extended due to the war. This solution will enable them to submit an application for legal residence until March 4, 2027.

An important change is the addition of a regulation that failure to submit an application for PESEL UKR within 30 days from the date of entry will result in the expiry of temporary protection. Failure to register after entry will be treated as an implied waiver of temporary protection. (PAP)
