On Wednesday, the president recounted the discussion with a judge whom he called after she decided to retire suddenly, because the magistrates' pension system was to be changed.
Nicușor Dan recalled that in one of the previous press conferences he said that he would call two magistrates who decided to retire.
“I'm afraid to say publicly that I'm a judge”
“I did this exercise. I spoke with a lady judge, who told me: “I tried to do my job, I went to all the training courses I could go to, to be professionally competent, to solve the problems that I have to solve. Now, I am ashamed to say publicly that I am a judge. I am even afraid to say publicly that I am a judge”. This is not normal”, the president declared in the conference on press held on Wednesday.
He answered this way when asked by a journalist how much trust the population can still have in the CSM, which filed a criminal complaint against Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu.
Also asked if he considers it important to organize a referendum on magistrates' pensions, as proposed by USR, Nicușor Dan answered:
“A referendum is a tool you use when parts of society have divergent opinions on a certain issue, this is not the case here. Both society, the political class, and even the magistrates agree that it is not normal for the pension to be as much as the salary, and then it is only a matter of legislative harmonization, how to solve this problem. So a referendum is not necessary. Everyone has the same opinion in society on this issue.”
