Large transfers to yourself via SBP in Russia will be considered a sign of fraud

The Bank of Russia will consider large bank transfers to itself through the Faster Payments System as a sign of fraud. Vadim Uvarov, head of the information security department of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the specialist, scammers began to convince Russians to make transfers to themselves from their own accounts in other banks. Now financial institutions will define such transfers as fraudulent if, on the same day, a client tries to transfer money to another person to whom he has not made any transfers for 6 months.
Uvarov explained that there is a list of criteria that banks follow when determining a transfer as fraudulent – for example, if it is a transfer to accounts that have previously been subject to fraudulent transactions, or if there is a criminal case against the recipient.
The Central Bank decided to update the list because scammers have new ways of deception. According to the expert, the Bank of Russia will soon publish an order with new signs of fraudulent transfers.
Let us recall that earlier in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, representatives of the Central Bank compiled a “portrait” of a typical victim of fraudsters. To do this, they conducted a survey in which almost 6 thousand residents of the region took part.
Last year, almost a third of the local population encountered financial scams; 3% gave their money to cybercriminals. It turned out that most often working women aged 25-44 with an average income and secondary education fell for the tricks of scammers.
