In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, representatives of the Bank of Russia compiled a “portrait” of a typical victim of fraudsters. To do this, they conducted a survey in which almost 6 thousand residents of the region took part.

In total, almost a third of residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory encountered financial scammers in 2024. 3% gave their money to cybercriminals. It turned out that most often working women aged 25-44 with an average income and secondary education fell for the tricks of scammers.

“The portrait of the victim shows some trends. Of course, these data do not mean that if someone lives in a rural area or has a higher education, then he will not fall for the tricks of scammers. Risks remain for all social and gender groups. For example, there were more women by only 8 percentage points, there were 54%, and men – 46%,” explains Sergei Zhuravlev, manager of the Krasnoyarsk Branch of the Bank of Russia.

The survey showed that in 71% of cases, scammers stole the victim’s own funds, 16% of those deceived gave both their own and borrowed money, 13% took out loans to transfer this money to the criminals. More than half of the people, 54%, gave amounts less than 20 thousand rubles, another 20% gave from 20 to 100 thousand. The biggest losses, over a million rubles, were suffered by 6% of victims of fraudsters.

Fraudsters in most cases (45%) contacted victims by phone or communicated via SMS. In messengers, psychological pressure was exerted on the victim in 16% of cases.
