President Nicușor Dan is to meet with the leaders of the governing coalition on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., with the subject of magistrates' pensions on the agenda.
Before the meeting at the Cotroceni Palace, Nicușor Dan laid a wreath at the Corneliu Coposu Monument in Bucharest. Greeted by journalists, the president was asked: “Do we expect to see with this coalition meeting a final solution to special pensions?”
“I don't think so today. I think we will take steps forward. I hope that in the course of November we will solve it”, answered Nicușor Dan.
The journalist reminds the president: “But we risk losing the money, 231 million euros…”.
“November 28,” Nicușor Dan answers and nods slightly, shrugging his shoulders.
This is the deadline imposed by the European Commission by which the reform of magistrates' pensions must be adopted. Government officials tried to extend the deadline, but failed. If the reform is not adopted by then, Romania will lose 231 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Program (PNRR).
The moment the president talks about meeting with coalition leaders today can be seen in the video below at the 2:06 mark.
