The Minister of Defense, about increasing the retirement age of the military: “The passage in reserve is made at 50 and 8 months. It is very little”

The Minister of Defense, Ionuţ Măriţă, states that there was no discussion in the ruling coalition on increasing the military retirement age, stating that the army reserve is now at 50 and eight months, which is “very little”.

However, the government official says that there is a social contract with these people and that the solution should be found through negotiations with the military, informs News.ro.

Moist said on Tuesday night at Digi 24 that he agrees with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan's statements regarding the increase of the retirement age for all social categories, but said that there was no coalition discussion on the retirement age of the soldiers.

“I agree with what Prime Minister Bolojan says, because we have to look at demography. In the coming years, more and more Romanians will come out, will be less and less Romanians who will pay the contribution to the pillar feed the tension system. And this is indeed unsustainable. On the other hand, you have a social contract with these people ”, declared the Minister of Defense.

According to him, the solution could be found through negotiations with the military. But Moist said that it will not be an easy solution.

“Those who have entered a certain perspective must be respected and, on the other hand, those who now enter the system to have a very clear way in front of them about the career plan and the retirement plan. In the coalition has not discussed so far the military service pensions. If there is a discussion, we will see tomorrow,” Ionuţ said.

According to the official, the reserve of cadres in the Ministry of Defense is aging, and currently working on a project that introduces the term voluntary military through which young people between 18 and 35 years old can make four months of army, during which time to be paid.
