Italians are known to be aces when it comes to shoes. But a Romanian entrepreneur “knocked” at their home. Sorin Nicolau makes military and technical footwear in Frumușani, in a factory equipped with European funds, and won contracts to equip the Italian Carabinieri and the Financial Guard. It also delivers for the Romanian Army, Gendarmerie and Police.
20 years ago, Sorin Nicolau wanted to produce quality protective footwear and started from scratch, with a loan of 2,000 US dollars, 10 employees and a production of 50 pairs per day at the factory in Frumusani, Calarasi.
To date, the Romanian entrepreneur has completed projects worth a total of 5 million euros with European funds and ended up producing footwear for the Italian Carabinieri and Guarda di Finanza, among others.
