The main shareholder of the football club Universitatea Craiova, Mihai Rotaru, stated, in the press conference in which he announced the resignation of coach Mirel Radoi, that he is confident in the team and that he will do everything possible to win the title of champion in this season of the Super League.

“I prefer to think that things will be much better. I don't sit around thinking that I'm afraid of failure. For me, the desire for victory is greater, it's immeasurably greater, than the fear of failure. 99% I'm focused on victory and if we're going to move the sun from the sky, I think we can and we'll win the championship this year. It's my desire. Mirel somewhat reproached me for putting pressure through my desire, but everyone who are in this club must learn, Craiova wants trophies, wants performance. We don't have to hide anymore, those who can't, go home. I want to change the mentality, I demand performance”, said Rotaru on Monday, according to Agerpres.

The official from Craiova was also satisfied with the option of choosing a foreign coach to replace Radoi on the technical bench.

“And last night when we lost, and in the match with Metaloglobus, no one can accuse the players that they didn't want to, that they didn't want to. Moving on, that's life. Unfortunately, we don't always find a Ferguson or an Arsene Wenger to lead us and have continuity. It's very difficult for me as club president to stay and change coaches. I knew that it could happen at any time that Mirel leaves and maybe it's better that he did it in final today. Because we have two weeks at our disposal and we have time for the coach to come and get to know him. It was a difficult decision, whether he should be a Romanian or a foreign coach. Because a Romanian coach would have known the championship better, but I think it is the right decision because we want to learn as much as possible from those who know more”, said Rotaru, who stated that there will never be peace in his team, because “we live in Oltenia and this takes up all our time”.

He also stated that he would be willing to work with coach Mirel Rădoi again at any time.

The sports manager of the Universitatea Craiova team, Mario Felgueiras, said that together with Mihai Rotaru he drew up a short list of three foreign coaches from which Rădoi's successor will be chosen.

“I wanted to thank Mirel Rădoi for the work done. After Mirel Rădoi's decision it is a more complex and complicated period for us. All night we were looking for the profile that we knew and the criteria that we want to respect. I can tell you that it will be a foreign coach. We currently have a short list of three coaches. It is a coach profile that you do not expect, but it is a clear profile. for us. We want a coach who has the ambition to win, and who is hungry for performance. I think it's a profile that doesn't exist in Romania. I don't know any of them personally. I don't want to talk about the countries they come from they are foreign coaches, I hope you find out as soon as possible,” said the Portuguese official.

“I'm very glad that I collaborated with Mirel Rădoi, because I haven't seen such involvement and desire for a long time. The only regret I have is that I didn't manage to help him one hundred percent, to have performances together, because his success was also mine. Now we have to turn our attention to the future, because I think we will have a good future,” Mario Felguieras said.

Mirel Rădoi resigned from the position of coach of the Craiova University football team.

Mirel Rădoi's departure comes after the team achieved its first victory in the Conference League on Thursday, 1-0 away from Rapid Viena, but lost on Sunday, in Bănie, against UTA Arad (1-2), in the Superleague.

Rădoi took over the team on January 28, after a first term at the University between August 9 and December 8, 2022. The University finished last season in third place, and Rădoi managed to qualify Sciința for the first time in the main phase of a European competition in the new format.

The university is in fourth place after 16 stages, with 29 points, being six lengths behind the leader FC Rapid Bucharest.
