Six people have lost their lives following the collapse of a small aircraft in New York, during the weekend, this being the latest incident in a series of air disasters in the United States, reports the BBC, citing the US press.
The National Transport Safety Agency (NTSB) said on Sunday that on board the aircraft collapsed on Saturday near Copake, New York, there were six people.
Although the exact number of victims was not officially confirmed, the American press, citing members of the families on board, states that all six people have died.
According to the same source, the victims were heading for a religious event. Among those who have lost their lives are: Michael Groff, the pilot of the aircraft and neurosurgeon, Joy Saini, his wife, surgeon, Karenna Groff, a former football player at MIT, designated several years ago “Woman of the year” in the NCAA, James Santoro, Karenna's lover, associated with Silver Point, Alexia Couyutas Duarte, freshly admitted to the Faculty of Law of Harvard University.
The tragedy took place near the town of Copake, and the impact was so strong that the aircraft “compressed, deformed and embedded” according to Todd Inman, NTSB representative.
Prior to the accident, the pilot, which is stated that he was experienced, reported a “missed approach” due to the visibility while heading to the airport in Colombia County.
