If you constantly cut onions and every time they taste bitter, sting your tongue and ruin even the simplest salad, then you are not alone. Many people think that they got a “bad” bow, but in reality it’s all about preparation. The author of the Zen channel “Kitchen from the Inside” (12+) told how to get rid of bitterness in simple ways.
The secret is that bitterness comes from natural substances that appear when onions are damaged. They also bring tears. But they are easy to neutralize. You just need to know a couple of simple tricks.
- The first method is boiling water. Chop the onion as usual, put it in a bowl, pour boiling water over it for 15–20 seconds, then immediately drain and rinse with cold water. If you add a pinch of sugar to the boiling water, the onion will become slightly sweet, almost like caramel.
- The second method is salt and vinegar. Place the chopped onion in a bowl, sprinkle with salt, add a little apple cider vinegar or wine vinegar, rub with your fingers and leave for 5 minutes. Then rinse with water. This onion is perfect for meat, shish kebab or burger.
Try these two methods and you will forget what bitter onions are.
