In her October speech to parliament, the head of the Danish government accused technology companies of stealing children's childhood by offering them harmful content on social media platforms.

The Danish government also announced the allocation of 160 million kroner (approximately EUR 14 million) to implement a 14-point program to help children and young people limit the use of phones and other electronic screens.

According to research by the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority in Denmark people aged 8-25 spend an average of 2.4 hours a day on social media platforms.

The ban should be passed this term of parliament, i.e. by autumn next year. If it comes into force, Denmark will be one of the first countries in the world after Australia with this type of regulation. French President Emmanuel Macron announced the banning of social media platforms for minors under 15 years of age.

However, the Swedish government commissioned experts to analyze whether and how to limit children's use of social media platforms. The Swedish Public Health Authority is currently conducting an information campaign in the media aimed at parents.
