The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, said, on TVR Info, that the new IT Platform of Social Health Insurance (PIAS) will interact with the patient and can be accessed both on the mobile phone and on the laptop or other device, with a code and a password. According to the minister, the patient will be able to see his medical history and finally, that electronic file of the patient will be available. In addition, he will be able to make appointments in the electronic system at the outpatient clinic and at the family doctor.
“It is a project carried out through the PNRR, because the PNRR also had a digitization component, where the Ministry of Health benefited from 400 million euros. 100 million euros of these 400 were intended for the new integrated health insurance platform. In December we will have the first appearance. (..) It will be tested in pilot systems, so that we do not affect the activity”, said the Minister of Health, quoted by News.ro.
Minister Alexandru Rogobete stated that “the transfer of information and data from the old platform to the new platform will take a long time, almost six months”.
“The new platform comes, in addition to the computerization adapted to 2025, with something new, it will interact with the patient. And this is a novelty. The platform will be accessible by the patient both on the mobile phone and on the laptop or other device with a code and a password, and the patient will be able to see his medical history. Finally, that electronic file of the patient will be available, he will be able to access his history of visits, he will be able to see how much each investigation cost and how much he settled The National Health Insurance House will be able to make appointments in the electronic system at the outpatient clinic and at the family doctor,” said the Minister of Health.
According to the minister, all appointments can be made from the platform.
“The electronic prescription, the medical letter, the referral, all the documents practically disappear and move to this platform. I'll give you an example. You go to the family doctor and he prescribes an antibiotic. You go to a pharmacy based on the CNP or the health card or the identity card. At first we will work on all three systems. Slowly, slowly we want to go to the area of the integrated identity card. The pharmacist will see the medical prescription in the platform and they issue you the antibiotic, without any other document”, explained the minister.
The new health insurance IT platform, which will replace the current PIAS platform, is to be fully operational in August 2026, said Alexandru Rogobete, in September.
Created in 2002, the current PIAS platform has frequent operational problems: “All these vital processes still run on equipment installed since 2002 – outdated, fragile, for which even spare parts are no longer produced. It is unacceptable that, in 2025, doctors and patients lose precious time in front of blocked servers”, says Alexandru Rogobete.
