The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, signed the decree establishing the new National Security Council (CNS) of the country, and the former Romanian Finance Minister Anca Dragu, currently Governor of the Central Bank of Chisinau, is part of this advisory body responsible for coordinating and monitoring national security policies.
The council is led by the head of state, Maia Sandu, and the position of secretary will be exercised by the presidential advisor in the field of defense and national security, Stanislav Secrieru, notes the News.ro agency citing the news portal NewsMaker.md.
The new composition of the CNS includes the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, the Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, the President of the Parliamentary Commission for National Security, Defense and Public Order, Lilian Carp, the Minister of Defence, Anatolie Nosatîi, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, the head of the SIS, Alexandru Musteata, the Acting General Prosecutor, Alexandru Machidon, the Governor of the National Bank, Anca Dragu, and Ana Revenco, the director Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation.
These are the ex-officio members of the Security Council, and the Governor of the Central Bank is among them.
Anca Dragu was confirmed as governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Moldova in December 2023.

Among the designated members are the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popşoi, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri, the Minister of Justice Vladislav Cojuhari, the Minister of Finance Andrian Gavriliţa, the president of the Legal Commission of the Parliament Veronica Roşca, the director of the National Crisis Management Center Serghei Diaconu, as well as the Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu.
According to the presidential decree, the National Security Council will carry out its activity based on the Constitution, the Law on National Security and its own regulations. By the same act, the decree of September 12, 2023 regarding the establishment of the Supreme Security Council was repealed.
The draft law on the establishment of the National Security Council was drafted by PAS deputy Lilian Carp and came to public attention in May 2025. In the draft, executive powers were proposed for this security body, instead of the consultative function. It was also proposed that non-execution of its decisions could be criminally sanctioned.
