Deputy Alexandru Muraru, the president of the PNL Iași county organization, claims that the PSD chose the path of irresponsibility and betrayal of the public interest, which was shown by the congress in which Sorin Grindeanu was confirmed as PSD president.

“Today's PSD Congress was a demonstration of political emptiness. A ridiculous show, a cacophony of populism and irresponsible demagoguery, in which the party that claims to save Romania failed to even save its credibility. Between being a responsible party or a team of noises, PSD chose the latter path, that of irresponsibility, betrayal of the public interest and contempt for civic common sense,” he wrote in a post on Facebook, Alexandru Muraru.

The liberal recalls that, while the PSD “played the role of the anchor of honesty”, the former social-democratic senator Marius Isăilă was picked up by DNA prosecutors for influence peddling.

“This is the true face of the PSD, through the double language and corruption masked in a moralizing discourse. And when even Liviu Dragnea, the former prisoner and the moral author of OUG 13, says that this congress is a farce, then it is clear that the PSD has become a retrograde party, unfrequented, lacking vision and any modernization perspective. Today, the PSD is no longer a party in transformation, but one in full moral and political disintegration”, he also wrote the leader of the liberals from Iași.

Today, Sorin Grindeanu officially became the new president of the PSD, after being voted in by 99.18% of the more than 3,000 delegates at the Romexpo congress. There were also eight abstentions and 15 votes against.

The PSD congress was also attended by Adrian Năstase, Mircea Geoană, Victor Ponta and Marcel Ciolacu – four of the former PSD presidents. Among the former presidents, Liviu Dragnea, who was not invited, and Viorica Dăncilă, who declined the invitation, were absent.
