Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared, on Thursday evening, on Digi24, that the adoption of reform measures regarding magistrates' pensions and the reform in local and central administration “is a necessity” in order to “reduce our public expenses” next year and “decrease the interest we borrow”.
The Liberal prime minister said “these packages are a must.”
“If we don't reduce the interest we borrow, think that next year we will pay interest that amounts to approximately 60 billion lei, which represents 3% of GDP, so of everything we have as a deficit, practically, almost half represents only the interest cost, it's an enormous budget,” added Ilie Bolojan.
He stated that in order to reduce interest on loans, we must show “that we are a well-managed country, that we do not waste our money.”
“I hope that by the end of this month we will solve these packages (…). The reform of the local and central public administration is also a necessity, we have advanced throughout this period. It is true that the discussions have been long, that restructuring is never done with applause, neither on a small scale nor on a large scale, but I hope that in the next period we will reach a solution in such a way that before the budget is approved we will have the package on the administration adopted. If we do not adopt the package on the administration, practically the budget will not could be built in a healthy way next year”, continued the PNL leader.
How the measures will be adopted
Asked if he will once again engage the Government's responsibility, Ilie Bolojan stated: “One of them, at least, the fiscal one, can be adopted through a fast parliamentary procedure. From my point of view, the package for the administration can only be passed by engaging the Government's responsibility, because it is a complex package, with many proposals, which if they do not remain in a coherent form, the reform in the administration is affected.”
“The package on magistrates, we will make a decision in a week, maximum two, opposite how it will go, but it is a necessity and we have to do it,” added the prime minister.
Ilie Bolojan was asked if he will make a decision himself or if he will make it together with PSD and Sorin Grindeanu.
“Decisions of this type are taken in coalition, with all colleagues present, so with all party presidents”, answered Ilie Bolojan.
