Assistant to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky Sergei Shefir commented on Facebook on the investigation concerning his family and property abroad. He stated that he acquired almost all the real estate before the start of political activity and reflected it in property declarations.
“I watched the new issue of Bihus.info. Excellent, professional work, expensive filming, they tried. The investigative journalist told almost everything correctly, but I would like to add a little. 99% of all real estate, both in the Czech Republic and in England, was acquired by me several years before I went into politics,” Shefir wrote.
He emphasized transparency and legality of his expenses and real estate ownership.
“The origin of the money is reflected in the declarations that I submit every year. And I pay taxes. I pay regularly, in accordance with the law,” he noted.
Shefir commented on information about his family.
“The investigative journalist either forgot to tell, or again didn’t want to, that my son did not run away and has been serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a volunteer since ’22,” he wrote.
The wife, according to Shefir, is engaged in volunteer activities.
“And I’m sure that it’s just an investigative journalist who accidentally forgot that my wife has been a volunteer since ’22, who regularly goes to the front in the Kharkov, Donetsk, and Zaporozhye regions. She just doesn’t advertise on this, but does what she considers necessary,” the post says.
Context
On May 14, Bigus.info published a story about the property of Sergei Shefir and his relatives. The material states that Shefir entered into an agreement with his wife on the division of property, according to which almost all of the family property passed to her. The agreement was concluded after the decision in the “envelopes” case was announced at the end of December last year.
