Education Minister Daniel David said on Wednesday that “there are discrepancies” between the grades students achieve during their years of study and those in national exams, and that he wants to implement clear assessment and grading standards.

On Wednesday evening, in a live on Facebook, the official answered the questions received online.

“Yes, there are these discrepancies, we have this problem. After so many years, we still don't have clear evaluation and grading standards. It's a problem, I started looking for solutions to it. For primary and middle school, we will finish the process, which involves the development of evaluation and grading standards, teacher training, probably next year, in June,” said Daniel David.

He said that at that time he also aims to complete the assessment and grading standards for high school education, “so that from the next school year, 2026-2027, we start not only with new programs, for example, at the high school level, but also with assessment and grading standards both at the level of primary education, at the level of middle school education, and at the level of high school education.”

“After that, we will be able to think better about the educational portfolios to take into account once you have these standards, which somehow even out the grades that are given throughout the country”, explained the Minister of Education.

“Memorandum” for the US Scholarship Program

Asked about the programs at the high school level, Daniel David said: “Things are moving forward. We are in the phase where the commissions are working to create the programs. We are on schedule, so if we stick to the things announced (…), next year, 2026-2027, we should start the 9th grade with new programs, the new framework plan, with new textbooks and in a different curriculum logic.”

The minister stated that there were discussions for the restart of the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program, “those mobilities we have between Romania and the United States at the level of pre-university education”.

“Also at the level of pre-university education, I think it is important to say that I have been in discussions with the Department of State in the United States, rather with the American Council for International Education, to see if we can restart the FLEX program, which was somehow suspended. The feedback is positive, so I am going to take a memorandum to the Government to be able to restart this program”, the minister also declared.
