President Nicușor Dan showed in the request for review that “”It is unclear the foundation of the normative act and the reason why it is necessary to establish a property right of the University of Life King Mihai I, respectively the reason why the objectives not be achieved by exercising a right of administration on them. Given the size of the lands concerned by the law and the potential that their value is appreciated over time, the transfer implies a significant decrease in the state's heritage ”.
On July 1, the Constitutional Court had rejected a notification of unconstitutionality filed by former President Klaus Iohannis regarding the law aimed at the free assignment by the Romanian state of over 500 hectares of land to the University of Life “King Mihai I” in Timisoara, according to a statement of the Court.
President Iohannis has attacked the law at the Constitutional Court since January 10, 2024. The CCR, an institution led by Marian Enache, has postponed the decision repeatedly, although in other similar situations it decided that the respective laws are unconstitutional.
The law was initiated by Sorin Cîmpeanu, PNL senator and rector of a university in Bucharest, and other MPs from PSD, PNL, USR and gold.
