Viral images from Iași: the moment when a man on a scooter crashes into a car after running a red light

A 49-year-old man was injured, on Tuesday, following an accident on Ștefan cel Mare boulevard in Iasi, after he entered a car with his electric scooter. The moment of impact, captured by surveillance cameras, went viral on social media.
A road accident that happened on Tuesday, November 2 around 11:00 a.m., on Ștefan cel Mare boulevard in Iaşi, became the subject of debate in the online environment, after the images captured by the surveillance cameras showed the moment when a man on an electric scooter rammed into a car after running a red light.
“On November 4, the police were informed, by calling 112, about the occurrence of a road accident in the municipality of Iași. From the first checks, it emerged that a 49-year-old man, while driving an electric scooter, did not respect the red color of the electric traffic lights in operation, at which point he collided with a car, driven by a 70-year-old man”, it is stated in the IPJ Iași press release.
As a result of the impact, the man on the scooter was injured and transported to the hospital for medical care.
Both participants in the accident were tested for alcohol, the results were negative, and the police opened a criminal case for culpable bodily injury.
What does the driver of the hit car say?
The driver of the car involved said that the man on the scooter was traveling at high speed and ran the red light without checking.
“I was walking and he went through the cars, at speed, and hit me. He ran the red light, I couldn't avoid him because I had already passed. He came behind me, he didn't come in front of me. If I saw him coming in front of me, I would have stopped. I had barely left the place when he hit me. He hit my leg. He had a high speed, over 50 km per hour. He was right in the middle. I would take off my scooters.” said the driver involved in the accident, quoted by BZI.
The incident has again fueled discussions about the safety of electric scooters, a means of transport that is increasingly popular in big cities, but often involved in traffic accidents due to non-compliance with traffic rules, with many commenting that they should be banned from Romanian streets.
