The longest road tunnel in Poland is being built near Szczecin. This is what it's supposed to look like
There will be a tunnel two parallel aisles, one for each direction of the expressway. They will be in each of them two lanes and an emergency lane.
The tunnel is to consist of two road “tubes”.
This is a larger and more advanced structure than the tunnel in Świnoujście, which has only one aisle with two-way traffic.
The drilling will be carried out by a TBM machine with a diameter of almost 15 m. The bottom of the tunnel will reach 51 m below the ground surface, and the road will run up to 45 m underground. There are 19 emergency passages between the aisles.
This is what the inside of the tunnel is supposed to look like
The tunnel itself is approximately one tenth of the entire ring road, which will be 50 km long and will include a road closure ring around Szczecin. The new route is intended to relieve the current A6, S3 and S6 arteries, which currently serve traffic around the city mainly from the south and east, which is especially overloaded in the summer season.
