The king on Thursday stripped Andrew of his title as Duke of York and other privileges after months of pressure over his links to American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This decision was made shortly after the publication of the posthumous memoirs of Virginia Giuffre, who claimed that at the age of 17 she was forced to have sexual contact with Andrzej. The son of Queen Elizabeth II never admitted to the crimes he was accused of.

The former prince retained his title of vice admiral after resigning from his other military posts in 2022 when Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against him in a New York court.

When asked by the BBC whether Mountbatten Windsor could also lose his military medals, the Defense Minister replied that they were “service medals” and no decision has been made on this matter at this time. – Generally speaking, the government is guided by the king's decisions and judgments – he emphasized.

The brother of King Charles III served in the navy for more than 20 years, including as a helicopter pilot during the 1982 Falklands War. The Guardian reported that currently his only source of income is his military pension, which is estimated at PLN 20,000. pounds per year.

The newspaper revealed on Friday that King Charles has approved giving his brother a one-off, six-figure sum and is willing to personally provide the annual financial support, which sources say is intended to prevent future excessive spending by the former prince.

British media reported that although the loss of royal titles took place with immediate effect, Andrew is unlikely to leave the currently occupied Royal Lodge estate before Christmas. He shared the house with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson for over two decades. His new place of residence is to be the Sandringham House estate, where the Windsors' Christmas gatherings are traditionally held every year.
