Trump's statement was made in an interview with CBS. The president suggested during that conversation that Russia and China “are doing tests, but they're not talking about it.”

We will carry out tests because other countries do them, he said.

US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright tried to soften the rhetoric of the head of state in an interview for Fox News, explaining that the planned American tests are “non-critical explosions”, i.e. without detonating a nuclear charge. He explained that all elements of nuclear weapons are tested there, except for the nuclear explosion itself.

China, which has not conducted nuclear tests since 1996, expresses hope that the US will take “concrete actions to maintain the international system of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation (of nuclear weapons) and ensure global strategic balance and stability,” Mao emphasized.
