Warsaw introduces night prohibition. Alcohol sales banned from November 1

As reported by the Warsaw City Hall, compliance with the ban on selling alcohol at night will be closely monitored by the police and city guards. Violation of the regulations may result not only in fines, but also in the withdrawal of the license to sell alcohol. The authorities announce that any attempts to circumvent the law will be treated as serious offenses.

Residents' concerns and authorities' response
The authorities of districts neighboring the prohibited areas are not afraid of the so-called alcohol tourism, i.e. moving alcohol purchases to other areas of the city. They assure that they will monitor the situation on an ongoing basis, cooperating with the relevant services. However, Warsaw residents express concerns that the new rules may affect their daily habits.
The decision to introduce night prohibition in Śródmieście and Praga-Północ is currently a pilot project. The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, who had previously opposed such regulations, changed his mind and announced that in the spring he would present a proposal to extend the ban to the entire city. If the idea is accepted, the night prohibition could apply throughout the capital from June 1, 2026.
Night prohibition in Poland
Warsaw joins the group of cities that have decided to introduce night prohibition in recent years. Since 2018, approximately 180 Polish municipalities have already implemented such regulations. This year, Szczecin, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Łódź began to ban the sale of alcohol at night.
In Masovia, similar restrictions already apply in communes such as Sobienie-Jeziory, Sulejówek, Łomianki, Nieporęt, Legionowo, Wieliszew, Jabłonna and Grójec. In Ciechanów, the night prohibition will come into force in 2026.
