Travel warning for Romanians going to Bulgaria. The Giurgiu-Ruse bridge closes completely

The Bulgarian authorities will temporarily suspend road traffic on the Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge for all categories of vehicles on Tuesday, November 4, due to renovation works, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced on Sunday.
Road traffic on the Giurgiu – Ruse bridge will be restricted and completely closed between certain time intervals. For the date of November 4, 2025, between 09:00 and 21:00, traffic is suspended for all categories of vehicles, announces the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For the interval 04 November 2025, 21:00 – 05 November 2025, 09:00, traffic is suspended only for vehicles transporting goods, regardless of tonnage, those transporting people being allowed to cross the bridge (cars, minibuses, coaches).
The MAE recommends Romanian citizens who intend to cross the Giurgiu – Ruse Friendship Bridge to take into account the mentioned periods when road traffic will be stopped to cross the bridge and to use the other border crossing points between Romania and the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Bulgarians have been doing consolidation work for almost 2 years
At the bridge over the Danube, on a 1.1 kilometer section, the Bulgarian side has been working on strengthening the structure since spring 2024. Work is underway to replace the bridge slab, asphalt pavement and all metal elements related to the traffic lane. The cost of the works amounts to approximately 22 million euros.
The Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge is the most important link between Bulgaria and Romania, a structure over which thousands of cars and 1,000 TIRs pass daily, according to the statistics of the Romanian authorities.
At the same time, during the summer season, over 1 million Romanians cross the Friendship Bridge and Bulgaria to reach Greece.
