China increases pressure on Taiwan. Donald Trump's decisive declaration

Donald Trump said in a Sunday interview with CBS that the topic of Taiwan did not come up during his Thursday conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. – I can't reveal my secrets – said Donald Trump when asked whether the United States would defend the island in the event of an invasion.

China wants to take control of Taiwan. They do not rule out the use of force

The US president and the Chinese leader met on Thursday in Busan, South Korea. Chinese media suggested before the talks that China's demand for the US to change its stance on Taiwan's independence would be discussed. The People's Republic of China wants the US to officially oppose this idea, not just “not support it.”

Communist China considers Taiwan its territory and has intensified military pressure in recent years while proposing a “one country, two systems” model. However, this proposal is firmly rejected by the authorities in Taipei. At the same time, China does not rule out using force to take control of the island.

The United States has no formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, but is legally obligated to provide it with defense assets.
