The Parliament of Moldova approved Munteanu as prime minister. He stated under what conditions he would resign.

55 deputies of the ruling PAS party voted for the new composition of the Cabinet, News Maker emphasized.

The Moldovan government led by Munteanu will take the oath of office on November 1. The ceremony will be attended by the country's President Maia Sandu.

She must appoint a new Cabinet, which will exercise its powers from the day of its oath.

According to News Maker, eight ministers from the previous Cabinet of Ministers, Dorin Recean, remained in the new government of Moldova, in particular, two deputy prime ministers – Cristina Gerasimov and Vladimir Bolya, as well as the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense – Mihai Popsoi and Anatoly Nosatii.

Munteanu, presenting the government program in parliament, said that he would resign if Moldova does not sign an agreement on accession to the European Union by 2028, writes News Maker.

Munteanu, 61, calls himself an “American of Moldovan origin” and has lived and worked in Ukraine and the region for the past 20 years, he said News Maker. He received a master's degree in physics from Moscow State University and a master's degree in economic policy management from Columbia University. He was a member and chairman of the board of directors of many enterprises in Moldova and Ukraine. Thus, Munteanu headed the direct investment department of the Ukrainian company Dragon Capital.

Munteanu is the co-founder of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova and the chairman of the French Alliance in Moldova, which has been working in the country for more than 30 years. He is a Knight of the French Legion of Honor.

Context

In Moldova, on September 28, 101 members of parliament were elected for a term of four years. This year, 23 electoral competitors (15 parties, four blocs and four independent candidates) competed for seats in parliament. Sandu's Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) won a majority.

On October 13, then Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean said that he would renounce his parliamentary powers after they vote for a new government and will continue his professional activities. PAS expressed regret over the decision taken by Recan as the party intended to retain his position as prime minister.

The next day, Sandu’s political forces proposed appointing economist and entrepreneur Munteanu as prime minister, News Maker wrote. The President of Moldova noted that she personally called Muntean and invited him to head the government.

Munteanu said on PRO TV on October 16 that some current ministers will remain in the new government of Moldova, but new faces will also appear.

On October 24, Sandu officially nominated Munteanu as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Moldova and instructed him to form the government.
