Nicolae Dică, 45 years old, has been out of contract since September, after parting with Concordia Chiajna. Guest at GSP Livethe coach claims he may pursue another career: “A turning point for me.”
“I'm on an unwanted holiday now,” says the coach who in 2018 beat Lazio in the spring Europa League, 1-0, from the FCSB bench. The years have passed, the last experiences have been missed.
“It is very difficult. You are appointed a coach today and you are asked for results yesterday. To come and implement your principles – it cannot be done overnight, you need time. Unfortunately, this time does not really exist”, says Dică.

“At Chiajna, for example, we brought 17 new players in the summer. It's not easy to bring 17 players and sign a team if you don't have time. You talk something at the beginning, but along the way things change,” adds Nicolae. He does not want to go into additional details about the Chiajna break.
But a short analysis about the failures of FCU Craiova, Voluntari: “I stayed very little in Craiova. Mr. Mititelu told me that he has confidence, that he no longer wants to quickly fire the coaches. I left after a month“.
“I went to Voluntari with a lot of confidence and I was wrong. I wanted to transform a team with a certain style of play, to change the style, and I didn't succeed. By the time I realized I had to go back to my old style, it was already too late. It was a mistake I realized later“.
Then Chiajna… it's hard to explain. I know what happened, but I don't want to get into the discussion. Both in Craiova and Voluntari we took over teams on the fly. It's good to take over a team in summer or winter, you have time to prepare a training camp. From the desire to coach, you think you can succeed, but ideally you would take over teams at the beginning of the season or in the winter

“I'm close to making a decision”
“For now, there are no discussions with any club”, admits Dică. “It will be difficult for me to find a team at the moment that will give me the time I need, but we will see what happens in the future. My desire and ambition is to succeed, even if many are skeptical. Many people say to me: «What are you looking for in football? You are crazy!”. Yes, I'm crazy – crazy because I like it, that's why. There are people who know my financial situation and tell me so“.
3 years ago, Dică declared, also at GSP Live, that he was considering giving up his coaching career if he was not successful. What does it now say about this possibility?
“The moment I don't get the results I want, it's clear that I don't want to sit somewhere low”, states Dică.

If he doesn't succeed as a coach, Dica mentions that he can take other positions, such as that of sports director, for which he took courses.
“I can't give up football, because it gave me everything I have at the moment and I can't live without football. Maybe I won't be a coach, maybe I'll be something else in a club. I've also been attending sports director courses for a year. I signed up for these courses because I found them interesting. I said that it would also help me, as a coach.
It was really a good idea – I learned a lot and it is always possible to give up the coaching career and go for the sports director. The ideal is to be a coach, to be on the field every day – that's what I like”, emphasizes the former midfielder of the Romanian national team.
Continue: “I have set a deadline. I am really close to that moment when I will make a decision. It may be a turning point for me. I am analyzing. It depends on what offers I will have as a coach”.
Mihai Stoica brought me to Steaua for the first time, as Gâlcă's second-in-command, and MM also told me to come to him as sports director. I refused, because I like being a coach. I want to try this thing. I am a man who, since 2008, from the age of 28, started to write his workouts. This is what I wanted and still want. But life… you don't know where it's taking you
