The new government of the Republic of Moldova was voted by the parliament.

The government led by Alexandru Munteanu received the confidence of the parliament in Chisinau, with the votes of 55 of the 101 deputies, and will be led by an economist with a pro-European orientation, who has never held political positions, according to Reuters, Moldpress and Unimedia.

The new prime minister mentioned economic growth and the continuation of the pro-European course as priorities of the new government.

“We will focus on economic growth and the continuation of our strategic direction – the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, an objective supported by the majority of citizens. We want this process to bring concrete benefits to people: investments, well-paid jobs, modern public services and an efficient and close administration to the citizens,” said Alexandru Munteanu, quoted by Agerpres.

He appealed to the unit.

“What we have achieved together in recent years represents remarkable progress. These results show us how much we can do when we build together, always having a common goal in front of us. Let's join forces for the good, prosperity and European path of the Republic of Moldova”, added the new prime minister from Chisinau.

Who is Alexandru Munteanu, the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova

The new prime minister from Chisinau is 61 years old, and until now he was not involved in political life and had no visibility in the public space.

Alexandru Munteanu was born in Chisinau and is an economist, university professor and businessman, known for his activity in the field of investments and involvement in international educational and cultural projects. He is the founder of the company 4i Capital Partners and the French Alliance in the Republic of Moldova, but also one of the co-founders of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova.

He graduated from the Faculty of Physics, after which he started his professional activity at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Later, he joined the Technical University of Moldova, where he was an associate lecturer in the discipline Theoretical Foundations of Electrotechnics and held the position of vice-dean of the International Faculty.

After the creation of the National Bank of Moldova, Munteanu was appointed head of the Currency Operations Section, and later became deputy director of the Department of External Relations. He taught the Banking and Finance course at ULIM and followed postgraduate studies at Columbia University in New York, specializing in international relations, banking and finance. After completing his studies, he worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC

In 1997, he returned to the Republic of Moldova, where he held the position of deputy director of the Center for Strategic Investigations and Reforms (CISR). Later, he was director of the representative office of the American Investment Fund WNISEF and acted as a member or chairman of the boards of directors of several companies in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

Since 2007, he headed the Direct Investment Department of Dragon Capital in Ukraine, and in 2016 he founded 4i Capital Partners, an investment firm with operations in Eastern Europe. Alexandru Munteanu was also a member and co-president of the Business Council at the Stability Pact, Vienna, Austria, as well as president of the Board of Trustees of the International Baccalaureate (IB) accredited Pechersk School International (PSI) in Kyiv, Ukraine. For his professional and civic merits, in 2006 he received the distinction of Knight of the Legion of Honor (Légion d'Honneur) from the French Republic.
