The end of October brought an increase in retail fuel prices in Poland. The average price of diesel oil reached PLN 6 per liter and was the highest in two months.

In the last week of October, the average retail price of unleaded 95 gasoline was at PLN 5.88/l and was 4 groszy higher than a week ago – according to BM Reflex data. The price of diesel oil, on average across the country, increased by PLN 8/l PLN 6.00/l. The last time HE was this expensive was at the beginning of August. Autogas was refueled after an average of PLN 2.62/l, so a penny per liter cheaper than a week ago.

It is worth remembering here that we are writing about average prices throughout the country. Prices at individual stations may vary by up to several dozen cents per liter, depending on the location and the strength of local competition.
Additionally, these rates do not take into account discounts and periodic promotions that distributors usually introduce during holiday or holiday periods. My editorial colleague Marcin Kaźmierczak wrote about the promotions valid during All Saints' Day.
Fuels also remain slightly cheaper than a year ago. The average retail price of Pb95 gasoline is 19 gr/l lower than a year ago, and diesel oil is 13 gr/l lower. However, autogas is clearly cheaper than at the end of October 2024, and we fill it up with an average of PLN 45/l cheaper.
Diesel fuel may become even more expensive
– The increase in wholesale fuel prices (mainly diesel) observed since October 23 is reflected in increases in fuel prices at domestic stations (…) The first week of November may still bring an increase in diesel prices, but on a smaller scale, by approximately PLN 4/l. Gasoline prices should remain stable, BM Reflex analysts wrote in their weekly commentary.
On October 31, the Płock refinery offered Ekodiesel fuel at PLN 4,782/m3, which after vating gives PLN 5.88/l. This is 16 groszy per liter more expensive than a week ago and already 32 groszy more expensive than two weeks ago. The reason for this state of affairs was the rising prices of diesel oil on the London ICE exchange. There, the fuel currently costs USD 716/t, although a few days ago prices reached USD 738/t. For comparison, in mid-October this fuel cost less than USD 650/t.
Gasoline prices are more stable and were valued at less than USD 1.90 per gallon on the New York Mercantile Exchange. However, in Orlen's Friday price list, Eurosuper 95 gasoline cost PLN 4,492/m3, which after adding VAT (excise duty, fuel surcharge and other para-taxes are already included in the wholesale price) gives PLN 5.53/l.
This is as much as 35 cents per liter below the average retail price. The latter could therefore be much lower if it were not for the pricing policy of the largest gas station chains. It is also worth being aware that at the beginning of 2021, a gallon of gasoline in New York cost approximately the same as today (and the dollar was even slightly more expensive), in March 2021 we paid PLN 5.00-5.20 per liter of gasoline. This fuel was also much cheaper in wholesale and cost approximately PLN 4,000/m3 net.
As always, it should be noted that fuels could be much cheaper if it were not for taxes imposed by the authorities. From every liter of gasoline or diesel oil purchased, over 50% goes to the state. Without paying tribute to the government, we could fill up with Pb95 petrol for approx. PLN 2.60/l, diesel for approx. PLN 2.90/l, and autogas for approx. PLN 1.50/l.
