Oana Gheorghiu, co-founder of the “Give Life” Association, appointed deputy prime minister by President Nicuşor Dan, will take the oath on Thursday morning, at the Cotroceni Palace.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. Prime Minister Bolojan will also participate in the event.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan proposed the co-founder of “Give Life” for the post of deputy prime minister left vacant after the resignation of Dragoș Anastasiu, and on Wednesday, president Nicusor Dan signed the decree appointing Oana Gheorghiu to the position of deputy prime minister.

The proposal of Oana Gheorghiu for the position of deputy prime minister created tensions.

After the Government's announcement, the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, requested, on Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister “to withdraw his proposal immediately”.

Oana Gheorghiu had criticized the current US administration on social networks, and Grindeanu claimed that by possibly appointing her as deputy prime minister “we risk compromising the relationship with the United States of America”.

“In order to avoid compromising the relationship with the United States of America and not heading towards an irreparable diplomatic disaster in relation to our strategic partner, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan must immediately withdraw his proposal submitted to President Nicusor Dan by which he nominates Mrs. Oana Gheorghiu as Deputy Prime Minister in the Government of Romania!” Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday, in a post on Facebook.

In response, Oana Gheorghiu said that nothing she wrote on her personal Facebook page before taking over the position of deputy prime minister “in no way engages the Romanian state or the Government of Romania”.

Aged 56, Oana Gheorghiu is a graduate of the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, class of 1994, specializing in economic management.

Co-founder and co-president (since February 2025, previously vice-president) of the Donate Life Association, Oana Gheorghiu has been involved for more than a decade in the development of medical infrastructure projects and in advocacy campaigns that have changed the way society views the state's responsibility in health, according to a Government statement.
