First Vice-President Ciprian Ciucu stated, on Digi24, that Sorin Grindeanu already had the information that the US would withdraw part of the military it has in Romania and used this to link the subject to the appointment of the new Deputy Prime Minister, Oana Gheorghiu, whom the PSD leader said has “anti-American positions”.

“I know or believe that Mr. Grindeanu had prior knowledge of the fact that the American troops will withdraw from Romania and in a way – let me be more delicate in expression – a politician used this information”, declared Ciprian Ciucu after he was invited to comment on the criticism brought by the leader of the PSD, Prime Minister Bolojan and the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs regarding the way they communicated publicly on the issue of the withdrawal and the appointment of Oanai Gheorghiu as deputy prime minister, whom the social democrat accuses of having “anti-American positions”.

“He made yesterday's post with US President Trump to exploit two topics that he connected, having nothing to do with each other – because the withdrawal was planned for a long time – but last night's topic suddenly appeared out of nowhere, precisely to fit it into this current context, which was given by this withdrawal, which I don't think is right. I mean, let's sit all the time with the worry that we don't know who else is attacking – us they are attacking AUR, they are attacking our Coalition partners… it is very difficult to move forward believing that there is trust between those who are in government”, added the mayor of Sector 6.

As for Oana Gheorghiu, Ciucu said that her appointment as Deputy Prime Minister comes about because Prime Minister Bolojan wants to bring integrity and competent people into the Government.

“He is a person, if you will, like a kind of popular hero, because through what he managed to do he materialized the aspirations of Romanian society. On the other hand, Mr. Grindeanu, who does not have the best credibility, who on the other hand, we remember when he was prime minister, even in the State Department he taxed Romania on issues related to corruption”, Ciprian Ciucu also said.

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu reproached Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and USR Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs for how they communicated on the subject of the withdrawal of part of the American troops from Mihail Kogălniceanu. Grindeanu said that Bolojan was more concerned with appointing a deputy prime minister with “anti-American positions”, referring to Oana Gheorghiu.

“Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has no message on this topic of major public interest and contributes to the deepening of confusion on a bilateral level. His only public concern, these days, was the appointment for the position of deputy prime minister of a person who, even if he has results in the activity of civil society, deepens – through his previously expressed anti-American positions – the doubt in the relationship with the Strategic Partner”, Sorin Grindeanu wrote in a post on Facebook.
