The president of the UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, said on Digi24 on Monday that any disputes between the governing parties in the campaign for the Capital City Hall elections must remain at the local level, because if they turn into a conflict at the coalition level “then we really put the country in an even bigger deadlock”.
Three of the four formations in the ruling coalition have announced their own candidates for the December 7 elections: PSD, Daniel Băluță, PNL, Ciprian Ciucu, and USR, Cătălin Drula.
“Any competition brings some losses in a coalition if there are several competitors – and there will be three competitors for sure – and that's why I think that everything that happens in Bucharest, in this competition, we must not raise at the national level, at the coalition level. It must be kept at the local level. It is true that Bucharest is the capital of the country, what happens there is also felt at the national level, but it would be a big mistake to bring it up every week the disputes in the campaign for the General Mayor of the Capital in the coalition”, said the UDMR leader.
He suggested there would also be “tough times”.
“We will not be able to say that there will not be such difficult moments, because there are three candidates, or there will be three candidates, they have been announced, maybe REPER or PLUS will also come, or those who were there, will gather again and the risk that none of the coalition candidates will come out increases, especially if they will not have the wisdom not to enter into a very tough conflict between them”, added Kelemen Hunor.
The former deputy prime minister issued a warning about the risk of an “even bigger deadlock” if the competition between the governing parties does not remain at the level of Bucharest.
“At the national level, if they come into conflict, then we really put the country in an even bigger deadlock. They are already competitors, Băluță, Ciucu and with Drula are competitors, but we must keep this competition only at the level of Bucharest”, concluded Kelemen Hunor.
