Germany is planning arms purchases worth a total of EUR 377 billion, reports “Politico”. The German army will include, among others: 687 Puma infantry fighting vehicles, 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles and 561 Skyranger anti-drone systems.


“Politico” writes on Monday about the 39-page list of the German government, which journalists were able to read. This list is an overview of the Bundeswehr's arms orders that are to be included in the German budget for 2026. The total planned expenditure is EUR 377 billion, although many projects are long-term.
Politico calls the document a “wish list” and a “comprehensive road map for the long-delayed modernization of German defense.”
The Bundeswehr plans 320 armaments projects, 178 of which have already been assigned a contractor. The hardware modernization of the army is to be rooted in the domestic industry. German companies dominate the plan, EUR 182 billion is to flow to German companies.
Rheinmetall rubs its hands
The largest beneficiary is Rheinmetall, the largest German arms company. The Duesseldorf-based concern and its subsidiaries will receive EUR 88 billion. Rheinmetall, together with the French-German KNDS, will be responsible, among others, for: for the delivery of 687 Puma infantry fighting vehicles by 2035.
To effectively defend against the modern air threat, the Bundeswehr is to be equipped with 561 Skyranger systems to combat drones.
The Skyranger system, which is still under development, is considered a potentially effective weapon against drone swarms. It can be placed on an armored vehicle and has a high rate of fire.
Another “winner” is Diehl Defense
Apart from Rheinmetall, the second industrial pillar of the Bundeswehr is to be Diehl Defense, producing, among others, missile systems and precision ammunition. The Bavarian company has planned contracts worth EUR 17.3 billion. These are mainly IRIS-T air defense systems, which the German army intends to purchase in the coming 14 years.
According to the list The Bundeswehr intends to allocate EUR 14 billion for the satellite programincluding new geostationary communications satellites.
More super fighters on the wish list
According to Politico, the list includes the potential purchase of an additional 15 F-35 fighters. So far, Berlin has ordered 35 of these machines, manufactured by Lockheed Martin.
Earlier, “Der Spiegel” wrote about the increase in the order for fighters. However, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense later told Reuters that there were no plans for additional planes.
