The unsuccessful initiatives of the Opposition against the Government. Analyst: “He is not in a position to negotiate, to offer an alternative”

AUR filed three motions against Bolojan government ministers, all of which were rejected by Parliament. A tool that the opposition uses frequently, through which it shows its political positioning. However, draws the attention of the analyst Zăbava, any such approach must be accompanied by an alternative.

Recently, the simple motion against the Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, was rejected by the Chamber of Deputies. Previously, the motion against the USR Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță, failed with the vote of 34 senators, 5 less than the number of signatures since the submission. Before the debate and vote, 3 independent senators out of the 39 signatories of the motion announced their intention to withdraw their signatures.
The motion against the Minister of Education, Daniel David, was slightly more successful in the Senate, but still failed to meet the required number of votes, i.e. half plus 1.
The motion against the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, was rejected with 200 votes “against” and 87 “for”.
Five no-confidence motions without result
If, in the case of simple motions, the aim is to take a stand against certain approaches of the respective minister or the government, a motion of censure leads to the dismissal of the Executive. So far, the opposition has submitted five censure motions, all rejected.
The first was submitted in the summer, in the context of the first package of fiscal-budgetary measures for which the Executive assumed responsibility in Parliament. The following four were submitted in the context of the assumption of responsibility by the Government led by Ilie Bolojan on package 2.
The initiatives of the opposition, a “spectacle of democracy”
“It's a show of democracy. These are the democratic levers that the opposition in Parliament has and the motions do not only aim to dismiss the Government, in the case of the motion of censure, or to sound the alarm in the case of simple motions for ministers. They also have the purpose of a political statement, of positioning, of expressing disagreement with the policy of a character, of the Government itself”explains political consultant Adrian Zăbău for “Adevărul”.
Motions of no confidence, in particular, often come with negotiations and piecemeal votes in Parliament. However, the current opposition only has a third of the votes.
“Today, the opposition is not in a position to negotiate anything. It is not in a position to offer something, to offer an alternative after all. No? That basically, negotiating on such a subject, the fall of the government, would mean an alternative. Today, this alternative, in the context of the presidency of Nicușor Dan and the way the coalition is formed, there are not many ways of dialogue and negotiation”. also shows Adian Zăbău.
