Russia on Sunday denounced “attempts” to sabotage its “constructive” dialogue with the United States with a view to settling the conflict in Ukraine, a few days after the postponement of a new meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, writes AFP.
“We are witnessing titanic attempts to sabotage any dialogue between Russia and the United States”, declared in a video message Kirill Dmitriev, emissary of the Kremlin on economic issues, who has been holding a series of meetings with officials of the American government in Washington since Friday, reports Agerpres.
“We are ready for a constructive dialogue and a clear communication of Russia's position on several issues,” Dmitriev insisted.
“Russia wants a peaceful settlement” in Ukraine, the Kremlin emissary said, saying that “respecting” Russian interests and “eradicating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis” should serve as the basis for “just solutions.”
After arguing that US sanctions would not significantly affect Russia's economy, Putin sent his special economic envoy to talk to the Trump administration
For his part, in an interview given to the Hungarian YouTube channel Ultrahang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Washington did not propose “any new meeting or conversation” between the heads of the two diplomats after their telephone conversation on Monday.
“And we have not broached the subject since then because the entire initiative belonged to the United States. We would be ready to move forward if the Americans felt comfortable with themselves,” Lavrov said, speaking in English.
Asked about the much-discussed Trump-Putin summit, postponed sine die, Lavrov replied: “That depends on those who launched the process.”

However, Kirill Dmitriev met on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with officials of the American government, as well as, according to him, with “representatives of the American community who want a positive dialogue with Russia”, among which Anna Paulina Luna, a member of the House of Representatives from the state of Florida, stands out.
“A strong voice for dialogue and peace,” Anna Paulina Luna will organize a meeting between American and Russian lawmakers to “encourage a parliamentary dialogue,” Dmitriev wrote on X after meeting with her.
