Is it impossible to shorten working time in these industries? It's a challenge


The expert pointed out that we cannot ignore sectors where we already have staff shortages.
— Today, let's imagine shortening working time standards, for example in the health service, where we have a shortage of nurses or doctors. (…) The shortening of working time standards, if it occurs, is mandatory and statutory, will apply to everyone.? We will need additional doctors. We will need additional instrument players. It is not that simple and putting the public sector on a pilot program will certainly not answer this question, argued Smulewicz.
She also pointed out that among the companies that will take part in the pilot short working time program in the medical industry is only… the District Medical Chamber.
— We're talking about doctors, we're talking about health care, but let's look at production, for example. For example, if a certain number of people must stand at the production line for the production line to start at all, she added.

The expert emphasized that the introduction of a shortened working week should be preceded, first of all, by a very thorough analysis of what is happening in a given organization.
— Are there any places where we lose productivity, for example? Is there any way we can improve productivity? But it is also work on employee motivation and employee engagement. Today we have a very big problem related to commitment, quiet quitting, the so-called silent departure of employees – she enumerated.

Who will take part in the pilot?
90 companies and institutions from the private and public sectors will shorten working hours while maintaining remuneration for over 5,000 people. employees. This is the beginning of a new era on the Polish labor market. The average funding for one entity will amount to PLN 0.5 million. This is the first pilot of this type in this part of Europe, authored by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.
The program gives you complete freedom to choose a model to shorten your working time. Companies can test a four-day working week, shorter hours or longer holidays. The pilot was preceded by a year of intensive consultations and research with employers who have already implemented shortened working hours in their companies and institutions.
However, it turns out that even 60 percent enterprises participating in the pilot are state entities. And this may make the entire test unreliable.
