Starting this year, Braşov City Hall will no longer organize fireworks in Piaţa Sfatului, and they will be replaced by laser games, in order to reduce the stress caused to animals.
“We all love pets, whether we have a puppy, a cat or a canary at home, or we just see them at friends' or relatives'. Unfortunately, every end of the year is a real nightmare for these animals, especially on New Year's Eve, when tens and hundreds of fireworks explode all over the city. We, those who have an animal at home, know that we have to take all measures like these, because of fear, so that they don't run away and lose. We hear more and more often how the morning of the new year is just a search for the recovery of the dog or cat lost due to fireworks”, Mayor George Scripcaru said, according to News.ro.
The mayor says that, in order to protect the “unspeakable friends”, he decided that, starting this year, the town hall will no longer organize the fireworks in Piaţa Sfatului.
“I hope that our example will be followed by more and more people from Brasov, and that the night between the years will be an occasion of joy not only for us, but also for our pets”, stated Scripcaru.
The decision follows the example of Cluj, which last year abandoned the traditional fireworks display in favor of a show of drones and lasers.
The law prohibits most pyrotechnic articles for the public
Local authorities remind that the legislation in force prohibits the purchase and use of pyrotechnic articles by the general public, with the exception of those in class I – such as sparklers and cake candles – which can only be used outdoors, following the instructions on the packaging.

Greater penalties for those who sell or use fireworks and firecrackers. The law was promulgated by Nicușor Dan
