The Israeli army announced on Saturday evening that it launched an airstrike targeting a member of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the center of the Gaza Strip, despite the cease-fire agreement mediated by the United States, reports Agerpres.
A fragile truce has been in place for two weeks between the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, an ally of Islamic Jihad, and Israel, although the latter reserves the right to defend its forces.
“A short time ago, the Israeli army launched a targeted attack in the Nuseirat area, in the center of the Gaza Strip, which targeted a terrorist of the Islamic Jihad organization who was planning to carry out an imminent terrorist attack against Israeli army troops,” the army said in a statement.
In the attack, a civilian car was hit, injuring four people, Al-Awda hospital announced.
“The hospital received four wounded after the Israeli occupation army targeted a civilian car in the area of the Al-Ahli Club, in the Nusseirat camp, in central Gaza,” the hospital said.
The Israeli army said it would continue operations in the Gaza Strip “to eliminate any immediate threat” against its troops.
