Donald Tusk announced the name of the new party. This is the end of the Civic Platform

However, there is no surprise – the Civic Platform and its satellite parties are transforming into the Civic Coalition. The group's logo is a white and red heart, which politicians have already used in previous election campaigns. At least this was the background against which Prime Minister Donald Tusk began the unification convention, although he has not yet confirmed the new name.
— The ability to tell the truth is important today. I see our colleagues here today – MP Filiks, MEP Adamowicz. You know how I feel when I say: “let's tell the truth.” We do not want the wave of contempt and hatred to return again, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk, opening the convention.
— We, after many years in 2023, were the first to decide to call things by their name. We managed to unite many people. Those who stand on the side of good do not have to be powerless, he continued.
— We all know and love the words of our Pope “overcome evil with good”, but politics is not romantic idealism. Good triumphs over evil, but it must be strong, he continued.
— We are not perfect, we are perfectly aware of that – assured Tusk, adding at the same time that this unification will allow great things to be accomplished. — I don't want to see great things fall down again because of small misunderstandings – added the Prime Minister.
— Today I have great appreciation for Mrs. Nowacka [Barbara Nowacka — liderka Inicjatywy Polskiej — red.] and Mr. Szłapka [Adam Szłapka — lider Nowoczesnej — red.]also for ourselves in a sense, because the three of us decided to do something that was not easy. We have devoted a large part of our adult lives to working on our ideas. Today we unite because we understand that what unites us is much more important than what divides us – Tusk emphasized.
The Prime Minister devoted a lot of time to criticizing political opponents.
— Everyone sometimes has the temptation to say: “what the fuck is this Kaczyński, the old man made a mistake”, because he sees France as his main enemy. One might think that something is wrong. But that's not the point. Today, evil has a geopolitical dimension. It is difficult for some people to accept that the game is very serious here. Not out of malice, but whether Poland will defend its sovereignty and the path to prosperity that it has been following for over 30 years, the Prime Minister emphasized.

— They, not only Kaczyński, published some other brilliant theses about how Russia had to attack Ukraine because the rotten West made it happen. Mr. Wildstein came up with this. These are their official documents and papers. They really are increasingly looking for justification for Russian aggression against Ukraine. (…) We are threatened by those who see the Germans, French and Dutch as a greater threat than from Russia. They didn't miss it, it's a model built across Europe, Tusk continued.
He also mentioned that in 2015 he warned against considering Russia as an ally. He pointed out that the Kremlin regularly influences European politics – from Brexit to the situation in Moldova. – That's how it was during Brexit, there were Russians, Russian money, Russian bots and it was Moscow that drank champagne when it turned out that Great Britain was leaving. This was the case during the rebellion in Catalonia, I am not saying who was right, but there was a chance to cause serious trouble to the civil state, its neighbor. Yellow vests in France, huge protests, probably justified to some extent, but in the end there are traces of Russian interference. And so on and so forth. Moldova is an indisputable example. Balkans. This front runs through every country. With us too, said the Prime Minister.
New party – a well-known name
The resolution on Nowoczesna's self-dissolution was adopted last Friday. The Polish Initiative is to formally disappear on November 15.
So far, the Civic Coalition has already functioned in Polish politics, but not as a separate party, but as an electoral bloc or parliamentary group. In addition to the three parties mentioned above, it included the Greens, which remain separate.
