Ilie Bolojan, the president of the PNL, said Thursday evening on Antena 3 that “very likely” the candidate of the liberals in the elections for the Bucharest City Hall on December 7 will be Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of the party and mayor of Sector 6.
“Approximately two months ago, we did an opinion poll. There were three tested colleagues. The best placed was Mr. Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of Sector 6, who will very likely, next week, be designated the PNL candidate for the General City Hall of the Capital. He was the best placed among our candidates,” said Ilie Bolojan.
The prime minister believes that the future general mayor of the Capital “will not have an easy life in the coming years”, regardless of the name of the person in question.
“In the scale of difficult positions in Romania, I think that, after the position of prime minister, the position of general mayor is among the most difficult, because he has some rather big responsibilities in the heating system, the general mayor's office does not have very high revenues, they are distributed a lot to the sector mayors, so no matter who wins the Capital City Hall, he will not have an easy life in the years to come,” added the PNL leader.
Stelian Bujduveanu “honored this interim”
He praised the work of the current interim mayor, the liberal Stelian Bujduveanu, whom he said “honored this interim”.
“I supported the organization of these elections, on the one hand, because this is in accordance with the spirit of the law (…). Secondly, I think it is good for any locality to have a man who has a stable mandate in office. The current interim mayor did a good job, but always a legitimately elected man has a different authority than an interim mayor, as, for example, is Mr. Bujduveanu, who had a very good performance from my point of view and honored this interim”, said the leader of the liberals.
“You can campaign without swearing like at the tent door”
The prime minister and also the leader of the PNL said that he hopes to be “a civilized campaign in such a way that things remain in a normal climate”.
“I believe in a certain wisdom, as I told you. You can campaign without cursing like at the tent door. I think people need, however, some solutions, the ability to project what you want to do. And I told you, thanks to the pulverization of the General Council and these problems that the general mayor's office has, no matter who wins, it will not be an easy mandate”, explained Bolojan.
He believes that Ciprian Ciucu “did some very good things” at the Sector 6 City Hall, which he has been leading since 2020.
“Obviously, for example, Mayor Ciucu's experience, which he has proven and gained in these years at the District 6 City Hall, where he did some very good things, I think can be put to the service of the Capital,” concluded Ilie Bolojan.
